CHAPTER SEVEN

Matthew lifted the oars out of the water and settled them in the boat. Then he took a seat next to me and put his arm around me.

“Sarah, I didn’t come back here tonight because I wanted to relive painful memories. I came back here because I knew how hard tonight would be for you. I knew you needed me, even if you were too damn proud to ever admit it.”

I leaned against him, sliding my arm inside his jacket and around his waist. He was warm and solid. I could hear the steady sound of his heartbeat against the side of my face.

“You’re right.” My voice was muffled as I kept my cheek against his chest. “I have always needed you.”

“What did you say?” He leaned back and looked at me.

“I need you,” I said.

“No, the other part.”

“I can’t believe you’re teasing me at a time like this,” I leaned back and looked up at him. When I saw the look on his face it made me smile too. “Fine. I said you were right.”

He laughed. “That was definitely worth coming back for.”

“And that’s all you came back for?” I reached down, placed my hand on his thigh, giving it a gentle squeeze.

“Well, as a gentleman, I didn’t want to presume.”

“Maybe that’s been our problem.” I slowly moved my hand up his leg. “Maybe you need to stop being a such a gentleman.”

For a few seconds, he didn’t move. He stared at me, and in the darkness I couldn’t see his eyes. Had I been too forward? Had I misread his intentions? Had I…

Then Matthew silenced any doubts as he took me in his arms. There was a longing in the kiss, and the moment I parted my lips, his tongue sought a deeper taste.

When his mouth finally left mine, it was only a split second before he lips found the side of my neck. Chills rippled through me when he began kissing the delicate skin beneath my ear. It was as if every part of my body had been in hibernation, waiting for this one man to awaken it. Even the feel of his five o’clock shadow against my neck was arousing.

While his mouth was occupied on my neck, his hand found my knee. Slowly, he caressed my inner thigh, working his way up underneath my skirt. Between his lips and his fingers, I was already soaking wet by the time he reached my knickers. When he felt it, he lifted his face from my neck and smiled. There was no more hiding exactly how I felt about him, how much I wanted him.

He pushed my legs apart and his fingers slipped underneath the thin cotton fabric. I sucked in my breath when he spread me open, his thumb expertly finding my swollen clitoris. As he began to rub it, finding the perfect balance between pressure and speed, I grabbed the side of the boat to steady myself and closed my eyes to give myself entirely to the erotic sensations.
